- 1 pound ground beef
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 8 slices rye bread
- 1 cup jarred muffaletta olive salad, drained
Instructions:
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties
Season with salt and pepper
In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter
Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15 minutes
Remove from the skillet and set aside
In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter
Add the beef patties and cook to your desired doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium
Top each beef patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and allow it to melt
Meanwhile, toast the rye bread slices until golden brown
To assemble the sandwiches, place a slice of toasted rye bread on a plate
Top with a beef patty, a spoonful of caramelized onions, and a generous amount of muffaletta olive salad
Finish with another slice of toasted rye bread
Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make 3 more sandwiches
Serve immediately and enjoy
